First edition, first printing (undated) published 1934 by Hutchinson & Co, London

Book: Fine, 1178pp, publisher's original turquoise cloth with black stamped designs and titles to the upper board and spine. The corners are sharp and square, not a single mark to the cloth, it's unread, the pages are tight and flush, no marks or inscriptions. it's a super fine copy of a book which (due to it's scale and thin paper stock) usually appears battered and bruised.

Jacket: Fine, the original, gorgeously gaudy 1934 dustjacket is jaw-dropping condition. A couple of very tiny nicks around the spine tips and the lightest wear around the hinge corners, otherwise an incredibly bright and fresh exaample of this scarce jacket, the orange is deep in colour and still has a glossiness about it, the spine is wholly unfaded, the rear white blurb panel is still very clean as are the flaps, a light line of toning to the extremeties of the flaps, unclipped price of 3'6 net

*A huge volume with seventy supernatural tales to go at, many classics of the genre by M R James, E F Benson, Cynthia Asquith, Ambrose Bierce, Arthur Machen, Oliver Onions, May Sinclair and many more. Rare in such condition.
