First edition, first printing published 1946 by John Gifford, London
Book: Vg, 191pp. Publisher's original red cloth with black titles to the upper board and spine. Light bumping to corners and spine tips, cloth is bright and clean, light fading to spine tips to correspond with jacket loss. Pages are tightly bound and clean. Jacket: Good, Loss to the spine tips, chipping to the hinge corners, light wear along the hinge lengths, unclipped price of 7'6 net. Super jacket art by Rebel. Gifford's titles were very cheaply produced and are rather scarce in the jackets, do not confuse them with the common book club editions.
* There is very little known about US author Anne Rowe (Anne Von Meibom Rowe 1882-1961), who wrote a number of mystery/detective novels, some with oriental mysticism/supernatural content such as 'Painted Monster' which was also published by Gifford, London. COBRA VENOM (also published as simply VENOM in the US) is a mystery thriller, the blurb reads 'Here is a well-constructed account of murder by a very ancient, but baffling process. Mysterious deaths occur without any visible signs of violence on the victims.' Much in the same vein as Fatal purchase and contains elements of oriental mysticism.
* Cheaply produced
