First edition thus, (cheap edition) published in 1936 by Heinemann, London.
Book: Vg, 299pp, original black cloth with white titles to the spine, question mark motif and publisher's device to the lower board. The boards are very clean with light rubbing to the corners and spine tips, light fading to the spine titles. Some foxing to the text block and prelim's and page extremeties, pages are tightly bound and clean, previous owner's inscription to the ffep dated 1937. Dust jacket: Vg-, unclipped price of 2/6 net, 2/6 also printed to the spine. Pictorial jacket printed in green and black, some scuffing and chipping along the extremeties, (around the spine tips and hinge corners), light wear along the hinge lengths, whiter panels and jacket is in general clean and reasonably bright. Like all Allingham's titles from the 30s, it's scarce, particularly in the jacket which I've never seen before.
