*Weird fantasy based on psychopathology and fanciful ethnology concerning an ancient race iof people The Uighurs. Wandering through Alaska, the protagonists come upon a unknown, sub-tropical land hidden beneath a mirage. A pigmy lost race, sacrificial rights, the Cult of Khalk'ru, an Octopus like monstrosity which the people believe to be a god, actually turns out to be a being from another dimension (I can't find my copy of Lovecraft's essay on Supernatural fiction, but it wouldn't suprise me at all if he included it.) 'The last and best of Merritt's wonderland fantasies.' (Bleiler 1159, Guide to Supernatural Fiction.)
