First edition, second impression published October 1928 by Heinemann, Ltd (first printing Febuary 1929)
Book; 311pp, Vg+ Original black cloth with red titles and ruling, red titles to spine. Very light rubbing to the corners and spine tips, top edge of block stained orange. Boards are deep in colour, titles very bright and fresh, spine in superb condition. Orange staining to top edge of ffep done during production, no inscriptions, the pages are very tightly bound and crisp. A superb copy. The original jacket priced at 3/6 net is a wonderful example, bright orange with black design of a Pharoah with flames beneath her feet, light chipping to the hinge corners and some small loss to the head of the spine which doesn't affect the titles. An uncommon title in any condition, in the striking dustjacket, very difficult indeed.
*Another title missed by the major genre bibliographers. Mystical supernatural novel/reincarnation. Peregrine Sark, village eccentric/egomaniac brings back a terracotta figure of Cybele to his english country house, and gets a little too envolved in worshipping the deity. He falls in love with a young girl who moves to the village and is willing in an instant to sacrifice his wife and child for her with terrible consequences.
