The jacket has been professionally restored, it was missing a section at the bottom of the spine which has been very skillfully re-applied, it now presents very nicely indeed. Small chipping and loss around the hinge corners, wear along the hinge lengths. Unclipped price of9s 6d, the wraparound artwork is very beautiful. A affordable copy of a very difficult to find in jacket, it is also a book which suffers badly with condition, the jacket was printed on thin paper (possibly still using war economy stock.)* The author's first book and one of the most acclaimed children's novels of the last century. It was memorably filmed in 2003, directed by Tim Fywell and starring Romola Garai, Bill Nighy and Rose Byrne. Beautifully illustrated by Ruth Steed from sketches by the author.
