LEGENDS OF THE FENLAND PEOPLE by CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE
Dustjacket artwork by Mona List
First edition, first printing published in 1926 by Cecil Palmer, Chandos Street, London.
Description: Book: Vg, Original brick coloured cloth with paper spine label with titles, rough cut text block. Corners are lightly bumped and the spine tips are rubbed, boards are very clean, the title label is also excellent, no spine fading, foxing to the text block. Very light foxing to preliminaries and corresponding pages edges to block foxing. Tightly bound and clean, without inscription.
Wrapper: Vg, An exceptionally scarce dustjacket from 1926 and extremely desirable do to the pictorial wrapper featuring a beckoning red haired witch flying over the Fens dramatic skyline with a windmill, sun burst and moon, just a stunning wrapper and a remarkable survivor as not only is it a wonderful example of a mid 20's jacket but it was printed on very thin paper, very few copies of this will have survived.
The wrapper is chipped to the hinge corners and has small loss to the spine tips (not effecting the text), the spine has dulled a gray shade and there is general light age soiling to the whiter areas of the wrapper like the lower panel, flaps are clean and bright.
