First edition thus, (in this format with different dust jacket design) published in 1948 by Putnam.
Description: Book: FINE, 522pp. Original publisher's blue cloth with gilt stamped titles to the spine. The cloth is incredibly clean, square, sharp corners, the lightest shelfware to spine tips, titles are bold and bright. The pages are flush and crisp with no sign of being read, the binding is as tight as it would be new. No inscriptions, truly an exemplary copy.
Wrapper: Near FINE, Light, light chipping to hinge corners and spine tips, the white lower review panel has some light soiling/marks otherwise this is a superb example of the jacket. The spine is entirely unfaded which you never see, unclipped price of 10s 6d net. A wonderful wrapper which oozes gothic charm. Listed in all major and minor genre bibliographies, 'THE MONKEY' is without doubt the pick of these grotesque gothic tales. A definite collector's copy, you won't find another in this condition.
