Compiled from the recollections of the Reverend Roland Batchel, Vicar of the Parish By E G Swain. First edition, first printing published in 1912 by W Heffer and Sons Ltd, Cambridge. 187pp, Good+ : Original publisher’s illustrated cloth with black titles, rubbed corners and along hinge lengths, the spine has toned with rubbing to the tips. Some light toning and sporadic foxing throughout, stitching is visible in a couple of places but the binding is very tight. This book of Short Ghost Stories is dedicated to M R James with whom Swain was a colleague and friend at Cambridge. Swain attended the legendary  ‘Chit-Chat Society’ Christmas Readings by James along with fellow Spook Story author E F Benson. Very much in James’s Style, Setting and Atmosphere but tamer and lacking what has been described as James’s ‘Unsettling, Anarchic Malevolence’
