'14th Thousand' printed on the title page. This edition dates to the early 40s. Book: Vg. Red cloth with black titles. Boards are bright and fresh, light pushing to the corners and spine tips. Titles are very bold, pages uniformly toned, Foyles sticker to fpd. Wrapper: Vg- Small chipping and loss around the spine tips and hinge corners, a few small closed tears to the edges. Age soiling to the rear white panel. Priced a 6/- (Hutchinson 6/- Library titles and authors to lower panel and rear flap. I love this superbly spooky jacket design, especailly the black cat! Not many of these wrappers make it, its printed on very flimsy paper stock (inline with war economy standards?)
*Benson is my absolute favourite author, his ghost stories are elegantly polished and masterfully written. This collection includes some of his finest 'Negotium Perambulans', the vampire tale 'Mrs Amworth', 'In the Tube' and 'And the Dead Spake'
