First edition, first printing published, 1945 by Batsford, Ltd, London

Book: Vg, 167pp. Red cloth with gilt stamped titles, light wear to the corners and spine tips, some light fading to top and bottom edges of the spine. Foxing to the text block and moderate foxing throughout. Pages are tightly bound with superb illustrations by Mervyn Peake.

Jacket: Good+ Scarce jacket designed by Peake with a superb illustration of a Witch to the upper panel, unclipped price of 21s. Notoriously fragile and brittle jacket has repairs to the spine tips and is secured along the rear hinge lengths with removeable archival tape scuffing/chipping along the front hinge lengths, foxing to the whiter flaps.

Uncommon in the jacket, this is an affordable copy of a very highly regarded and ellusive Witchcraft title. From the library of Edward Fletcher Cass (1937-2014), then president of the Folklore Society, and Society for Folk Life Studies.
